Annadanam – Daily Meals for People in Need at Kurnool Ashram
In Kurnool, southern India, many people living in extreme poverty face severe hardship. Children, older people and those living without care or support suffer from malnutrition, infections caused by contaminated water and a lack of access to healthcare.
Through our Annadanam meal programme at Kurnool Ashram, we provide warm, nutritious meals to people in need — bringing hope, supporting health and restoring dignity.
Meals are served regularly, and every donation helps us expand the programme. Our long-term goal is to provide meals every day and reach more people.
The project is delivered in partnership with the Balasai Baba Trust in India and complies with the strict requirements of India’s Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) for project-based aid programmes. This ensures fully transparent operations and legal compliance, with ongoing oversight by the Indian authorities.
Our aims and impact:
-
Provide a nutritious daily meal for people most in need
-
Improve health and quality of life
-
Build a sense of community and uphold human dignity

We officially put the new soup kitchen and its distribution infrastructure into operation in November 2025.
The following image gallery shows impressions of how we use this to regularly provide healthy meals to needy people and schoolchildren from the neighboring slum school.

Not everyone in Kurnool who needs a meal can reach the ashram’s daily meal service. Our volunteers therefore deliver freshly cooked food from the new community kitchen directly to people in need.
With a fully loaded rickshaw, they make their way through the city, reaching people experiencing homelessness and those living in extreme poverty. These deliveries also bring women experiencing homelessness and their children a nutritious, freshly cooked meal — often their first in a long time.

From a Narrow Alley to a Community Kitchen
The photos below show our kitchen as it is today, preparing and serving meals each day. What was once a narrow alley between a building and a high stone wall is now a place where hot meals are cooked for people in need.
It is remarkable how much has been achieved in such a small space. Every inch is put to good use — reflecting the same care we take with the donations entrusted to us: keeping costs low and making every contribution go as far as possible for the people who need our help.
However, difficulties with the gas supply are creating new challenges for the kitchen. We are therefore exploring the installation of solar panels. The electricity generated could power electric cooking equipment and reduce our reliance on gas. We still need to assess what size of system would be needed and what is practical at the site.
Alongside this, we are working to fund the installation through a dedicated fundraising project. Step by step, we aim to reduce the kitchen’s dependence on gas and secure a reliable daily meal service for the long term. Every contribution helps us move closer to that goal.

A Home for Orphaned Children Living with HIV
In India, people living with HIV — young and old alike — still face stigma and exclusion. Orphaned children born with HIV, whose parents have often died of AIDS, are especially vulnerable. Without family support, medical care or access to education, many face life on the streets — without shelter, food or hope for the future.
Together with the Balasai Baba Trust in India, we support a small residential community near Kurnool in southern India. Here, children and adults living with HIV find a safe and caring home where they are treated with respect.
Our support includes:
-
Regular, nutritious meals
-
Special protein supplements for children weakened by illness
-
Access to education, personal care and emotional support
Our aim is to help everyone in this community live with dignity and hope — and give children the chance to simply be children.

Student Support for Children Living with HIV
Since 2026, we have been able to offer scholarships to young people living with HIV from the community, helping them pursue higher education and build lives of dignity, hope and independence.
Many of their stories are deeply moving. Once homeless children living with HIV, facing exclusion and an uncertain future, they have found compassion, belonging and acceptance in this caring community. Here, they receive support and encouragement to discover and develop their abilities. University degrees and dreams that once seemed out of reach can now become a reality.
With love and compassion, anything is possible.
We would like to share personal letters from our scholarship students here on our website. Their stories show the lives you touch with every euro you give — and the difference your kindness makes to children and young people.
“Hello, my name is R., and I am in my third year studying biotechnology. I have been living with HIV since birth. Both my parents died when I was a child, leaving me to fend for myself. Poverty, malnutrition and health problems made life very difficult.
To continue my studies, I took on small jobs wherever I could find work. For almost eight years, I faced many hardships. Even so, I never gave up and kept trying to move forward.
After so long, I have finally received support, and I am very grateful. Thank you.”
“I am currently studying for a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE).
I have been living with HIV since I was born in 2001. Both my parents were also living with HIV, but at the time they did not have the information they needed about the condition. Today, my mother supports me on her own.
What I need:
I need help to cover any hospital and treatment costs if I experience side effects or other health problems in the future.
I would also like a laptop to help me with my studies and explore new technologies.
Support with my education and everyday essentials would help me continue my studies.
Help with finding career opportunities and taking the first steps towards an independent life would also mean a great deal to me.
Thank you for any support you can give.”
